| 17/12/2013 | Jim Gunn takes a tumble |
On Sunday 15th December, Jim was riding with the Juiors on the way to Fettlers when he fell and landed heavily on his hip. A passing car took him to the cafe, from where an ambulance was called and he was taken to Southport Hospital. Following examination he was found to have broken his hip. Jim had an operation on Monday and his hip was replaced. Irene reports that he was sitting up in bed following the op, and she is hopeful that he will be able to leave hospital in about a week in time for Christmas. We wish Jim a speedy recovery and hope he will be able to get back on his bike soon. Irene will give us further updates and has asked that we do not make too many calls or e-mails as she does not want too much fuss. |

By popular demmand the Sunday Club Run on 17th November will be through the Mersey Tunnel to the Eureka cafe, returning via Parkgate and New Brighton along the riverfront and back through the tunnel - about 75 miles at steady pace. Leaving Ainsdale police station at 9.15.am - if you want to come by car you can park at Allan Taylor's house - contatct via the contact form. LIGHTS are a good IDEA for the tunnel ansd in case we are delayed for any reason. See here for reports on last years ride |

Tuesday the celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic concludes with all the ships leaving Liverpool at 2pm sailing up the coast. The plan is for the normal club run from the Plough at 9.30 coffee probably at Cedar Farm then on to Liverpool for lunch and to see the ships leave. Back home via the coastal path at Crosby and the new path alongside Altcar camp. Home by 4pm. |

Colin Baldwin (Club President) attended an awards ceremony and prize giving. to honour primary schools in Southport/Ainsdale and Formby. St.Jeromes Catholioc Primary School in Formby were presented with a GOLD award. The school is holding a Bike It breakfast on Friday 8th February at 8.15am when all the children will be encouraged to ride to school, after which competitions will be held. Terry Seanor has been in hospital four more than four weeks after waking up with no feeling in his feet. Doctors have not found any cause for the problem after many tests and examinations. Terry is at home and well in himself although he can still only walk with help from a zimmer. He has more feeling in his left foot than before but still not recovered - so no bike and no allotment. We all hope to see him back on his bike in the future. |

On Monday afternoon,21st May, Greg was riding through Ainsdale on his way home from work. Approaching the roundabout at Liverpool Avenue and Green path he was hit on his right by a car turning right. Taken to Fazarkerly A&E by ambulance. After many x-rays no breaks were found and he was discharged 5 hours later. Now recuperating at home,though still in a lot of pain. And the the bike? -on first inspection amazingly little damage. A group of Southport juniors took part in a BC coaching session at the Velodrome on Sunday 16th September.
Southport CC is sad to report the passing of Bill Hesketh, a former member of the club, age 77. Bill was the club junior champion in 1951/52. Bill worked in the printing trade all his working life in the Liverpool area . A keen caravaner for many years he returned to cycling in later life and enjoyed riding in the local area with his many friends.(
