Neville and Thelma's farewell do.

Southport Cycling Club said goodbye to Nevile and Thelma (Holgate) on Monday 20th August. The Club Room was crowded with members who had come to wish Neville and Thelma good luck and a good trip to their new home in New Zealand.

Neville was presented with a SCC winter jersey by Ken Beck (because Neville had never had an up to date one) while Bill Lloyd presented a trophy of a chainwheel and cranks with an engraving recognising Neville's many years of service to the club. Bill also thanked Thelma for her help at the club over the years. The club had intended to present Thelma with a bouquet of flowers, however as they were moving out of their house the next day, this was not appropriate. Colin Baldwin presented a picture of the "Iron Men" in Crosby, recognising that this was one of Nevilles favourite places to ride to on a Monday morning.

For many years Neville has given his time to help run the Club Time Trials. The earliest result on the TT results page is from April 10 1997 and shows that Neville was marshalling at Hutton Island and he was involved in many of the club's activities before that date. Neville was a great Audax rider and completed many notable rides over the years. He completed 17 Super Randonneur Series between 1979 and 2008, being an "Ultra Randonneur". (An SR series is rides of 200K, 300K, 400K and 600K completed in one Audax season.)

Goodbye Neville and Thelma and good luck in your new home!
