Tri, Tri, Tri Again

Report from Richard CarySue

On Sunday 22nd April, Sue and I were competing in the Ribby Hall triathlon. A short-course event, making it intense, but 'accessible', especially for newcomers. A 400m pool swim - I think I covered this in about 9 minutes, but Sue is always a bit quicker than me at this. Then, a 10.5 mile cycle around Wrea Green and Lytham - 29 minutes or thereabouts for me, 39 for Sue. And a 5k run to finish - 19:00 for me, and then, with a quick switch of numbers, because Sue had decided she hadn't done enough running to get round, a further 5k for me - 19:10. Times to cover the distances are not entirely exact, as they include 'transition', but that's part of the overall thing.

The atmosphere was wonderful, with much cameraderie (as we have found with so many triathlons), and the event organiser had done a terrific job in securing a huge number of helpers and marshalls to ensure it all flowed smoothly.

From around 250+ finishers, I finished 38th overall, and the two-thirds Sue / one-third Richard relay about 120th. We had a lot of fun.
