Super-fast TT day - Southport riders spring into action - Altrincham Ravens 25

Desperate Dan Burdekin was desperate for a super-fast 25-miler, and he thought this was it. Conditions were almost perfect on this glorious, extraordinarily warmTeamSouthport spring afternoon on J2/9. What he didn't know was that the course was rather more lumpy than Tarleton and the roads, at times, were as rough as an old dog. We also had a bit of a traffic lottery with busy Cheshire roads on a Saturday afternoon - delays and obstructions were a common feature for most riders.

The organisers also chose to hide the finish board from sight until it sprang into view with about 50m left. A slightly odd circuit, starting right by the Jodrell Bank telescope joining the road to Chelford, then Ollerton and down the A50 to Cranage before rejoining the Chelford road and another half-lap to finish on the A50 somewhere near Over Peover (what a relief) (had to write that, schoolboy humour etc). Nonetheless, Dan fought round in 1:4:26. Colin Baldwin, in what is early days yet for his racing season, 1:7:41. Richard Cary, who's probably already half-way through his season, 1:3:36. I've yet to find out the final results, so I don't know who won, or how we did as a team etc.
