Ribble Valley 25M - Saturday 13 AprilWindswept at WinmarleighSpring arrived on Saturday, with blue skies and temperatures at last creeping up into double figures. At least it did for the morning. By mid- to late afternoon, the wind had picked up nicely, blowing obliquely across the unsheltered plains of the Fylde, for this 2-lap 'sporting' course based around Cockerham,Pilling and Winmarleigh. The course has plenty of twists and turns, bumpy roads, and a couple of small hills to be negotiated each lap, and riders were harried for the most part by that dogged easterly wind. And for the later starters, the end of our brief, 6-hour spring was heralded by the onset of rain. Southport was represented by the evergreen Pete Leonard who made light of the conditions with 1:1:38, Richard Cary 1:7:36, and Alfie Shaw 1:13:25. Former Southport rider, the rather classy John Findley, sped round in57:40ish, showing huge potential for the future. Event winner was John Morgan from Preston who whippedround in 55:12.
