NLTTA 50 - Monday 26 August - Borrowdale
Bank Holiday Monday Madness

This was an event that was originally supposed to be in May, but had to be postponed because of roadworks.

Starting near Portinscale, the race essentially runs up and down the A66 between Keswick and Cockermouth a couple of times. With the exception of the drag-strips on the A50 in Derbyshire, this is probably the fastest 50-mile course in the north-west, which isn't saying much. The course swings around in a very large, almost imperceptible arc and with breezes being channelled through the valleys riders can find themselves unexpectedly battling a headwind. Furthermore, being the Lake District, it ain't entirely flat - the roads roll up and down with around 1000ft of climbing to be done in total.

This time round I was unable to ride, but the club was represented by Alfie Shaw and Pete Leonard. Alfie clipped inside evens with a new PB of 2:29:56, Pete flew around at over 25mph - 1:57:12 (which may also be a PB?). Event winner was one of the country's top veterans, Peter Greenwood, Cleveleys RC in 1:52:52.
