John Findley Wins Liverpool Mercury Hill ClimbDo we have a successor to Jim Henderson? - Congratulations to John. Report Below is from Liverpool Mercury. Liverpool Mercury Hill Climb 31 October 2010 Ashurst Beacon There were some scarily fast times for the 2010 Liverpool Mercury (Dolan) Hill Climb Competition at Ashurst Beacon on Halloween (Sunday, October 31). Sadly, no-one turned up for the two-mile long climb in costume, but there were a total of 26 riders taking on the challenge, including some of the mountain bike lads - making it the biggest field for some years.

Guest rider John Findley (Southport CC) raced up from Lees Lane to the Prince William pub at the top of Ashurst in 7mins 00secs, while Dominic Smith followed him closely with a time of 7mins 17secs. Unfortunately, both are not full members of club. John was riding as a guest, while Dominic is due to join the club tonight. As the rules stand, neither of their times can officially stand - but at least they have bragging rights for the next 12 months. King of the Hill for 2010 is therefore Dave Rickets, who clocked up an impressive time of 7.20, while second place goes to Chris Edwards (7.21), followed by hill climb veteran Ray Pugh (7.23) and young gun Sam Palin (7.50). Chairman Tony McQuade, who was chuffed to bits after knocking more than a minute off his time from last year, said: "On behalf of the committee, I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone that turned out, as well as the entrants, helpers and supporters, for making it a successful club event."
