Eureka! Through the Tunnel to the Eureka Cafe. 17 November 2013

In spite of the change of date, a good turnout and good weather (well there was no ice in the morning and it did not rain) saw more than 20 riders meet at the Ainsdale police station.

Well it would have been more than 20 if Steve had arrived before we set off! Terry Seanor made a guest appearance to accompany us to the start of the Formby bypass - maybe his bike will only go towards Preston?

We met our youngest rider of the day (Dan) at Tesco on the bypass and proceeded into Liverpool - no p**c**res, no mechanicals - could this be true?

Re group at the Tunnel and lights on and down we went. Good going down but a hard climb out. Then across the lanes to the Eureka by 11.30. At this point Steve and Peter carried on to Chester - maybe Peter could not stop pedalling on his fixie?

Fed and watered off to Parkgate for a photo opportunity (assisted by a man with a dog) and then via Arrow Park to New Brighton.

Along the seafront we had the only mechanical of the day - at least it was not in the tunnel - might have had a penalty charge? Back to the tunnel entrance at which point we were afforded a police escort following through the tunnel.

With a tail wind rapid progress back to Ainsdale by 3.15pm.

A Grand Day Out
