"Bile It" Awards Ceremony - Report from the Club President

On Friday 25th January 2013, I(Colin Baldwin)was invited to the Ramada hotel in my capacity as President to attend an awards ceremony and prize giving.

The event was promoted by Mary Kelland of Sustrans/Bike it and was to honour primary schools in Southport/Ainsdale and Formby. There were children and teachers in attendance from 10 schools in the area, whilst most achieved either bronze or silver, pride of place went to St.Jeromes Catholioc Primary School in Formby who were presented with a GOLD award. Seemingly there were only two GOLD awards for the whole of the UK,so this was a terrific effort.

Praise must go to Claire McKinnon[teacher] and Lou Henderson[Jim's wife] who is a volunteer for their efforts in encouraging the children to ride to school and become more involved in cycling in general.

The school is holding a Bike It breakfast on Friday 8th February at 8.15am when all the children will be encouraged to ride to school, after which competitions will be held. The club has been invited to attend and hopefully promote the value of belonging to a cycling club, admittedly they are aged up to 11years old, but I feel it would be worthwhile to encourage the young people of the area and inform them of our Youth races in Victoria Park during March.

I am willing to provide further information on request. Colin Baldwin[Club President]
